We are delighted to invite you to the welcoming city of Madrid to join us in the 31st Annual meeting of the European Macrophage and Dendritic Cell Society (EMDS) in the 21st to 23rd of September 2017. Renowned speakers around the theme of fundamental and applied aspects of the myeloid family will be joining us, as you can see in the enclosed program. The medium size of the meeting (about 200 attendants) will surely spark discussions and will promote networking and collaborations. We encourage you to submit an abstract of your work for many available slots of oral (up to 15) and poster presentations. The fee includes all meals and social events.

Meeting Dinner September 22nd.

SAMARKANDA RESTAURANT (Salón Azul)

The meeting dinner, which is included in the registration fee, will be taking place on the 22nd of September at 20:30h at Samarkanda Restaurant.

Located in the tropical garden at Atocha Station, Samarkanda blends in with its surroundings. It is a British colonial-style mansion standing under the spectacular modernist ceiling of the station. Samarkanda, mythical city located on the silk route, is meant to be an exotic space, and the perfect venue for our event.

Every attendee’s inscription, in any of the participation modalities, includes:

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

– Each registered attendee can submit a maximum of one abstract as submitting author (underlined).
– Abstracts will only be considered for oral presentation when the full registration and payment is done.
– All abstracts must be submitted online using the letter type and word limits indicated in the form.
SUBMIT

– Deadline for abstracts submission until June 23rd.
– The Scientific Committee will communicate the final acceptance decision by e-mail to the presenting author before September 2nd.

There are 2 participation modalities:

ORAL

The oral presentations will be in at the CNIC conference room, which is in the auditorium of the venue building. Each selected oral presentation is allocated 15 minutes. It is crucial to ensure that talk last for 10 minutes maximum, so that there is time left for questions.
Please, bring a Powerpoint presentation of your talk to the meeting and upload it at least 30 minutes before the start of the session in which your talk is scheduled:

– Presenters of talks on the 1st day of the meeting are urged to proceed to uploading their presentations as soon as posible after registration.

– Presenters of talks on the 2nd and 3rd day of the meeting are encouraged to already upload their presentation on the day before.

POSTER

The posters sessions will take place in the hall of the CNIC building at the allocated space. Please set up your poster before the start of the first session of the day of your poster presentation, and remove the poster at the end of the day.
The highest size of the poster must to be 1,10 meters high and 0,90 meter wide, in vertical orientation and will be numbered.
Material to attach the poster to the poster boards will be available.
Posters can be viewed during the coffee breaks and lunch.
Please, be on time and by your poster during the scheduled poster sessions as indicated in the program.


Abstract selections are made by the Scientific Committee and based solely on quality of content.
The Scientific Committee may also select some abstracts for a short oral presentation at the meeting. All most abstracts are will be assigned a poster number for poster presentation during the poster sessions during the meeting.

Authors must adscribe their abstract to ONLY ONE of the following session topics:
Session 1.- Myeloid cells meet metabolism
Session 2.- Myeloid cells in the tissues (I)
Session 3.- Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of myeloid cells
Session 4.- Myeloid cells in inflammation and autoimmunity
Session 5.- Myeloid cells in the tissues (II)
Session 6.- Understanding dendritic cells
Session 7.- Targeting dendritic cells for immunotherapy

SUBMIT

To send a proposal, you must follow these steps:

1.-Access the registration page and register as a user on the conference website, by filling a form with your personal data.

1.-Once registered, you can proceed to send proposals through the platform.

You must select from the menu on the left the option “Submission” and follow the instructions provided.

GRANT & PRIZES

GRANTS FOR YOUNG RESEARCHERS (UNDER 35)

1.- Travel grants (800 €)- Members of the EMDS (below the age of 35) are welcome to apply to the President of the EMDS (guenter.weiss@i-med.ac.at). Applications need to be submitted before July 1st, 2017. The decision is made by the EMDS Council based on CV, scientific quality of the submitted abstract and financial needs of the applicant.

2.- SEI (Sociedad Española de Inmunología) offers 3 travel bursaries (300€). The applicants should be under 35 and members of the SEI since last year at least. To apply for the fellowships, please send an email indicating the interest in this “EMDS meeting SEI fellowship” together with a short CV and abstract of your oral or poster presentation to gestionSEI@inmunologia.org before 15th June. Selection will be performed by the SEI in agreement with the organizing committee.

3.- The European Federation for Immunological Societies (EFIS) is supporting this meeting with grants for young European researchers affiliated to EFIS societies other than SEI and travelling to Spain, and offers up to 10 travel bursaries (500€ each) to attend the meeting. To apply for the fellowship, please send an email indicating “EFIS GRANT” in the email subject and including a certificate that you are a member of an EFIS society, a short CV (maximum 2 pages) and abstract of your presentation to David Sancho (dsancho@cnic.es) BEFORE 15TH JUNE. Selection will be performed by the Scientific Committee in agreement with EFIS.

PRIZES

1.- Poster Prizes (200 € up to five prizes) – During the annual EMDS meeting dinner, poster prizes will be awarded to the first authors of the best presentations. The selection is made by members of the organizing committee.

2.- EMDS research award for young investigators (1000 €) – An annual prize will be given to a young researcher for an outstanding scientific contribution in the field of macrophages and dendritic cell research.

Applicants should ideally be members of the EMDS and below the age of 35 years for the first author or below the age of 40 years for senior author publications. The paper should have been published or accepted for publication in the years 2016 or 2017. The research underlying this publication must have been primarily performed at a European research institution and should have a major focus on macrophages/monocytes and/or dendritic cells. Please send only one publication!

The awardee will be invited to present the awarded publication in Madrid EMDS conference. The price will be handed over Madrid EMDS conference with a check in the amount of € 1000, sponsored by the EMDS. Application should be send to the president of the EMDS, Guenter Weiss (guenter.weiss@i-med.ac.at) until May 15th, 2017. Please include in your application a pdf of your paper, a brief C.V. along with a list of your publications and previous awards.
